UNIVERSITY of NOTRE DAME

INSTITUTE FOR CHURCH LIFE

2-Plus-Year Curricular Sketch

The academic formation dimension of the Echo program is provided in conjunction with and through the University of Notre Dame’s Department of Theology, specifically through its Master of Arts in Theology program. Echo apprentices and theology teachers fulfill all of the requirements of the established degree in a way that is particular to the needs of Echo.

Echo apprentices and theology teachers pursue a General M.A. in Theology degree in consultation with their academic advisor. The course of study includes a cluster of courses that focus on catechesis and catechetical study. The program seeks to provide adequate training in the basics of Christian doctrine as well as adequate training in the sophistication of theological reflection. Echo apprentices and theology teachers are required to take at least one course in each of six areas of study: Biblical Studies, History of Christianity, Liturgical Studies, Moral Theology, Systematic Theology, and Studies in Spirituality.
